60% of French respondents are ready to consume less energy this winter, according to an Elabe survey commissioned by BFM TV. And among those people who are ready to postpone their use of the oven or turn down their heating, the majority are young people (71% of 18-24 year olds), members of the working class (69%) and residents of the Paris metropolitan area ( 71% ). The risk of experiencing power outages is on people’s minds: 59% of respondents believe the risk of these outages happening is high.
However, one in three French people ensure that they do not reduce their consumption simply because they have already done the maximum. A minority (3%) simply assures that they do not have the desire. A majority also believes that private individuals and companies should share the effort.
Still, according to RTE, the population has already sharply reduced its consumption, which quantifies the decrease to 8.3% compared to previous years.

An abnormal situation
The preferred methods to reduce consumption are to replace light bulbs with LEDs, change the use of the washing machine or dishwasher, lower the heat and systematically unplug appliances.
Two-thirds of respondents also believe that this situation should not happen in France. Among them, three categories of people stand out: People who voted for Marine Le Pen, others Jean-Luc Mélenchon and finally abstainers. The majority of Emmanuel Macron’s voters believe that “as long as it remains exceptional, it is not very serious”, according to BFM TV.
