61% of consumers are ready to turn to a competing site in case of a bad user experience

Ping Identity, a pioneer in intelligent identity management, announces the publication of its study conducted by Wakefield Research. This study highlights a new analysis of the current login and account creation experience and how it differs across site types. 3,400 consumers worldwide were surveyed to analyze their attitudes towards security and convenience when logging into websites and their interest in controlling personal information online.

  • 61% of consumers are ready to leave competing sites in the event of a bad online experience. Internet users today want easier experiences on the websites they visit. And to date, less than two-fifths (37%) of consumers rate their typical experiences connecting to websites as very effective. This inefficiency can have detrimental consequences, as almost three-fifths (59%) have already stopped using an online account or service due to frustration when trying to log into their online account.
  • 62% of consumers expect an easier account creation experience on banking and medical websites. Today, the majority of Internet users regularly connect to websites such as Doctolib or banking applications that require increased security. But according to them, providing more information to banks and medical websites should not mean more steps. Note that 36% of consumers have already given up on creating an account on e-commerce sites or social networks because they have been asked for too much information. However, they recognize that social networks and sales sites generally offer the easiest login experience .
  • Multi-factor authentication provides peace of mind for 63% of internet users: Consumers want their online accounts to be more secure than ever, with nearly 2 in 3 people feeling better with a service that uses multi-factor authentication when logging in to their user account. But consumers still want convenience for their online experiences. More than 61% use their social media or email accounts to connect to other accounts, and 59% say it makes them feel more in control of their personal information. And if security were strengthened, 59% would do more.
  • 43% of respondents have already been victims of fraud following the theft of personal information online, and this has even happened more than once to almost one in five consumers (18%). With the holiday season approaching and the many online purchases that follow, 40% of internet users are more concerned about fraud during this period. Fraud has made consumers more cautious about providing information. 33% of those who have been victims of fraud due to stolen information now only use accounts where there are multiple ways to verify their identity.
  • 77% of Internet users believe that they do not have full control over their personal information online. Looking for a way to take back control, many consumers (43%) would be comfortable with the idea of having more control over their personal information by using a digital information card. And this time, they want their personal information at their fingertips. Almost half (46%) would prefer to keep such a card on a personal device rather than in the cloud.
