The crash happened overnight from Friday to Saturday near the victim’s home in Englewood, South Florida.
An 80-year-old woman died this week after being attacked by two alligators, reports the New York Times this Sunday. The victim, whose name has not been communicated by the authorities, fell around 8 p.m. this Friday in a pond located near a golf course and near his home, specifies the Miami Herald.
Authorities pulled the two alligators from the water. Florida’s state wildlife agency said it will work with police “on this investigation until the cause of death is determined by the medical examiner’s office.”
Several attacks in recent years
The American chain ABC stresses that fatal attacks by alligators are “rare” in the United States. Between 1948 and 2021, Florida reported 442 incidents involving “alligator bites,” 26 of which resulted in death. In 2018, a 45-year-old woman was killed by an alligator while walking her dog.
Over the past ten years, Florida has averaged 8 incidents “requiring medical treatment.”
