a dog missing for a year found more than 2500 km from its home

A German Shepherd cross that had been missing for a year in California has been found more than 1,500 miles from its home in Kansas.

After more than a year of wandering alone across the United States, a dog was finally found by his owners… more than 1,500 miles from his home. Zeppelin, a three-year-old German shepherd cross, disappeared from his family’s home in Sacramento, California in October 2021, his owner Sandra O’Neill told the US network NPR.

The family suspected that he befriended construction workers who worked near her home and that one of them decided to keep him. “I had no proof, but I thought someone fell under his spell and simply took him home,” the American said.

But 14 months later, when she was least expecting it, a woman from the town of Louisburg, Kansas (more than 2,500 km from her home) came to tell Sonia O’Neill that she had found the Zeppelin in his garden. She had taken the animal to the vet, who, thanks to the dog’s chip, was able to find the happy owners.

“I was shocked, just shocked when I found out,” Sonia O’Neill told the channel.

Since then, Zeppelin has become a minor local celebrity, and a press conference is planned for his return to California, where he will be sent home by car. In Sacramento, he will be able to discover the litter of puppies he had shortly before his disappearance. Two of them were kept by his family.
