A few days before Christmas, the behavior of the spaniel Ivy Blue had changed. The normally jovial dog would no longer eat and seemed to have lost his joy and carelessness, as related Mirror. Her owners took her to the vet, but her condition quickly worsened.
“We were devastated and thought we were going to lose her”
Ivy Blue suffered from severe anemia, and despite treatment from the vet, his condition worsened. “She was really bad, her tongue and gums were almost white, so she was kept for further observations.”, his mother explained Shelly.
“As Christmas approached we kept getting phone calls telling us her condition was getting worse, we were devastated and thought we were going to lose her. So on Christmas Eve we were told that her condition was critical and that she needed a blood transfusion.“
Shelter dog donated blood to save Ivy-Blu
The vet contacted the shelter Cheshire Dog Shelterhoping that one of their residents would be able to donate blood to save the spaniel’s life. Tucker, a resident Greyhound for already 5 years, was compatible with the female dog. He gave 400ml of his blood and it saved his lifeIvy Blue.
And since good news never comes alone, after saving a lifeIvy Blue and spent 5 years in a shelter, Greyhound was finally adopted. Yet his family was unaware of his bravery.
A meeting was arranged between the two dogs
Some time later, when the spaniel was much better, a meeting was arranged. Ivy Blue could thank Tucker herself.
