In South Carolina (USA), the Lancaster County SPCA rescued a dog, Stevie, chained for 8 years in the back of a yard. The latter will be taken care of by a shelter and will finally be able to taste the simple joys of life..
Steve is a blind dog who was about 8 years old at the time of his rescue, reports The Dodo. He never knew freedom and devotion because he lived in chains outside. In 2021 he was collected by Lancaster SPCAwhich works closely with the shelter Diamonds in Ruff located at New York (United States).
Steve had been neglected all these years. He became blind as a result of glaucoma and heartworm. The poor man, who was cared for by nursing staff, was full of fleas, worms and had to have surgery to remove a cob in his intestines.

The family was patient, knowing their protege’s painful past: ” We knew he was only protecting himself […] We were very careful as we knew he couldn’t see and we didn’t know him yet. ” leaves Erin.
As the days go by, Steve got better and better and began to trust his hosts. They brought him affection and comfort in their home.

A cozy bed
Steve had the right to a comfortable and comforting bed, which he probably had never known before, and his behavior proves it: he is very excited when he climbs into it! The animal jumps on it with enthusiasm. His little acrobatics have even become a ritual, according to Erin.
Despite his disability, the dog quickly got used to his foster home: ” He learned to navigate my house very quickly. He can find his way from the backyard, through the garage and up the three steps into the house. He knows how to wait for a treat in the kitchen when he comes in and knows how to jump on my little round stool to get on my bed. “He is playful and appreciates hugs just as much.
An obvious adoption
On instagram, Steve has his own account where thousands of people follow his life journey. On 21 February 2022, Erin announce it in a publication Steve has been adopted. She pretends to be the dog and writes: I am officially adopted!!!!! I’m not going anywhere!!!!! She [Erin] love me more than I’ll ever know and I’m so used to my home, surroundings and routine – I don’t need to change it “.
After a hard life, Steve happy days now flow with him who loved him at first sight.
