Apple Music increases the price of its student offer. An increase that (currently) only concerns the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
There are many music streaming services on the market today, each with their own catalog and features. If these two elements are to be taken into consideration, obviously, when choosing your platform, the price is just as logically a determining factor. AppleMusic offers, for example, an offer dedicated to students. This is now seeing its price increase in some countries.
Apple Music increases the price of its student offer
The student offer of Apple Music will therefore see its price increase in certain areas of the globe. As developer Michael Burkhardt and 9to5Mac have noticed, the Cupertino company has quietly increased the price of the student-only offer. This goes from $5 to $6 per month in the US and Canada and from £5 to £6 in the UK. It is difficult to know when, precisely, or even why, this change took place, but it is very recent. Contacted on the subject, the apple brand has not (yet) communicated.
The student offer was introduced in 2016. It offers all the features of Apple Music to those who can prove student status at a more attractive price. Right now, subscribers are even entitled to Apple TV+ as a bonus, but this is a “limited time offer” so could end at any time. Last May, Apple raised prices in countries like India, New Zealand and South Africa.

This price increase actually makes Apple Music harder to sell. Spotify Student Premium is currently offered for $5 per month in the US at the time of this writing, and includes the Hulu subscription (with ads) as well as Showtime. While there are some advantages to choosing Apple Music over the competition (notably the deeper integration with Apple devices), this offer may no longer be as attractive to those looking for the best value for money.
As to whether this price increase will be passed on in France, and when, possibly, that’s a whole other story.
