Athletics: the new equipment is ready

As is often the case at the weekend, the sports center was buzzing this Saturday 26 November with a rugby match attracting parents and supporters and athletics training. But for this last discipline, it was also about the inauguration of the new track.

From 7 June to 9 September, a renovation of the track and new infrastructure was put in place: widening the corridors and installing a flexible and draining rubber surface, creating a pole vault area, two high jump areas, a double long jump track and a shot put area. All at a total cost of €451,496, of which close to 60% was in grants from the department, the region and the national sports office.

The ribbon cutting, congratulatory speech and encouragement delivered, Mimouna Atallah, known as Mimi, the president of the Saint-Gély Pic Saint-Loup Athlétisme club, made the many guests discover all the workshops and new infrastructures by presenting the coaches and the promising young people.

All the speakers enjoyed the pleasure of being able to respond to ambitious but ultimately achievable projects in a unique location where a high school was inaugurated in October 2021. These infrastructures benefit everyone: sports schools, but also colleges and universities… This set of sports facilities could be included in the applications for training grounds for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games!
