Lhe coronavirus can probably be transmitted from cats to humans, according to a study published in the scientific journal Emerging Infectious Diseases. The researchers describe the case of a veterinarian infected with the virus in August 2021, in Songkhla, Thailand. The vet had treated the cat, tested positive for covid, and it had sneezed on her.

It is likely that the animal had contracted the virus from its two owners, according to researchers from the team of Professor Sarunyou Chusri from Prince of Songkla University in Songkhla. Genome sequencing showed that the virus found in the cat was very similar to the virus found in the veterinarian and the owners of the animal.

In a report published in the
New York Times
scientists point out that the coronavirus is transmitted more frequently from humans to cats rather than the other way around.
