According to a decree published last Wednesday in the Official Journal of the European Union, the fuel allowance of 100 euros can potentially be requested from January 16 on the impots.gouv.fr site. The latter replaces the discount on fuel that ended on 31 December. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne had announced since December that the discount would be replaced by this allowance reserved for the 10 million most modest workers. The date of the payment, which will take place in one go, was then announced by Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of Economy and Finance.
A deadline from 16 January to 28 February 2023
The decree published last Wednesday confirms “creating a fuel allowance for workers who use a vehicle for business purposes […] intended to limit the effects of rising fuel costs for households using a vehicle for professional purposes’; this request will certainly be “formulated between 16 January 2023 and 28 February 2023 on dematerialized funds using a form specifically available to applicants on the impots.gouv.fr website”.
Who can benefit from this benefit?
To be eligible for this help you must:
- be the owner of the vehicle and insured;
- be part of households located in the first five deciles of income, i.e. less than 14,700 euros of taxable income in 2021;
- not own a vehicle belonging to the following categories: heavy quadricycles, agricultural vehicles (eg tractor or quad) and heavy goods vehicles;
- not owning a company or service vehicle with fuel costs that are not the user’s responsibility;
- just ask for this help. This allowance is not automatic.
This subsidy applies to any type of vehicle, including two-wheelers. This compensation represents a discount of about 10 centimes per liters at the pump. It will cost a total of €1 billion, Ms Borne said.
