The color of a cat’s coat is defined by its genetics, and although there are breeds that have a very specific variation of colors, the same typology can be shared by breeds, in the same way that these colors can be shared by purebred cats.

Felines have only two pigments that give the color to their fur: red (phaeomelanin) and black (eumelanin). The absence of both gives rise to the color white, that is, the white cat is not a color as such, but the result of the absence of pigments. And this absence can be complete or partial.

In addition to the color of the fur, the disposition of the fur is also important, as the fur is categorized as follows:

• Solid color : Solid colored cats without lines.
• tabby colors : cats with stripes called “tabby marks”. There are four types: mackerel, classic, spotted and marbled.
• Chopped colors : these are cats that have a mixture of black and red and can be plain or tabby. These are usually female cats.
• Stained colors : cats with spots on the face, legs and/or tail. These spots can be solid or tabby.
• white coated cats : all the above combinations with white and the term particolor is used to define them.

In any case, if you have a cat as a pet, you will have noticed that it can have strange behavior and a very distinct personality, and although it may seem strange, it can be directly related to the color of its fur. So based on these colors we have:

• black cats : they have a greater disposition for peace and quiet. Despite their strong character, they are very controlling but also very loving with people. They are particularly sensitive animals.
• Blonde or orange cats : they are very sweet, intelligent, sociable and need constant affection. They express how they feel by rubbing all over the person and they love good food. Although they are shy at first, they quickly gain confidence.
• white cats : these cats have a strong personality and character. They are shy and tend to be more aloof with people. They are very loyal animals that give a lot of love to those who know how to conquer them.
• gray cats : they are fun and playful, witty and loving. Their feline nature testifies to their inquisitive minds.
• bicolor cats : they can be white, alternating with blond, black and gray colors. They are very social, playful, curious, stable, loving and tend to be close to people.
• tricolor cats : they have a more varied personality and are more active and playful. They like to be close to people. They are very sensitive to mood swings.
• Tortoiseshell cats : they have a variable character, are very withdrawn and somewhat suspicious of those they do not know. To show their affection, the relationship with people must be mutual.
