Almost two months later, we know a little more about thefire which ravaged Keys & Co, a very popular coffee shop in Caen (Calvados), on the night of Sunday April 17 to Monday April 18, 2022. Initially, the criminal origin of the fire was not favored by the police. It seems to be confirmed.
Released from jail for hearing
The presumed author of the start of the fire was presented, this Wednesday, June 15, before the correctional court of Caen, in immediate appearance.
The 25-year-old man was already incarcerated, and was taken from his cell to answer, at the bar, for acts of theft and arson in the restaurant located at the crossroads of Avenue du Six-Juin and the quay. of July.
Advised by his lawyer, he asked for the postponement of the hearing, to be able to prepare his defense. The case was adjourned to Wednesday, July 6. Until then, the defendant returns to prison to serve his sentence for harassment.
Immediate emotion and support
On April 18, Easter Monday, the Keys & Co fire caused an immediate stir in the city center and on social networks. Customers and neighbors quickly showed their support for Mylène, the mother, and Stéphanie, her daughter, the two founders of the coffee shop, and the fifteen employees still on technical unemployment.
From Paris where she works and lives, Juliette Lebret, a regular at the restaurant, who returns there every time she returns to Caen, had launched a solidarity online kitty on Leetchi. Closed today, it raised nearly €1,100.
As of today, Keys & Co’s reopening date is unknown. The repair works are in progress. The fire had been started in the reserve, it had spread to the kitchen and to the toilets. The release of smoke had gained the room and the floors of the building. A dozen residents had to be evacuated in the middle of the night.
A new address on the Presqu’île
While waiting for the return to avenue du Six-Juin, Mylène, Stéphanie, and their team are preparing the inauguration of a second establishment, on the ground floor of Norway, on the Presqu’île.
