Frigos share: an initiative that makes all the difference

As the holiday season approaches, the Frigos-partage organization in Quebec City is appealing for generosity to help the less fortunate.

For three years, Mrs. Chouinard has been homeless. For food, she turns to community refrigerators located in different neighborhoods in Quebec.

“When you’re hungry in life, well, you’re cold inside. I’ve seen chicanery before. We are in Canada but I have seen a fight over food. They are hungry and there is absolutely nothing. They are like discouraged. Besides, they are on the street. It’s really a part of their lives that is difficult,” says Mrs. Chouinard.

“There are many needs because we know it’s hard for everyone, we’re talking about a recession, we’ve talked about a pandemic. Sometimes I come and there’s absolutely nothing,” says Sylvie Dompierre from the Rotary Club.

Whether in Val-Bélair, Limoilou or St-Roch, fridges rarely stay full for long. Sir. Food, which has been filling the fridges for some time, is a witness to this traffic.

“It’s often empty. Me, I came last week, there were just three or four baguettes. There was practically nothing. In any case, the demand is high because it empties quite quickly,” he explains.

“It’s to make people happy, people who need it. There are people who are treated really badly, and there are more and more of them. So I encourage everyone to do their part for the holidays and even more,” he adds.
