A stray dog caused dangerous situations on the A1 and A5 motorways in the canton of Solothurn on Saturday. The animal was unharmed, but the police were unable to catch it.
According to the cantonal police of Solothurn, the dog, a Jack Russel terrier, first ran Saturday shortly after noon on the A1 motorway at the Kriegstetten exit. Several patrols tried in vain to capture “the offending road user”, can we read in a press release issued on Sunday.
Dog finally found
The dog then fled in the direction of the Luterbach junction on the A5 motorway. Eventually, the fleeing quadruped left the highway near Derendingen, where its trail was lost.
After a good hour, the capture operation was aborted without success. However, the dog was finally found in the evening and returned to the person who was watching him.
Motorists on the road in pursuit of the animal
The animal forced highway users to brake to a complete stop or swerve. As many people also stopped and left their vehicles on the highway, the capture operation faced critical situations.
Several people, for example, crossed the road in pursuit of the animal without taking the necessary safety measures. It is in principle forbidden to leave your vehicle on the highways, except if it is an emergency stop, reminds the police.
