It was already six years ago. The attack on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice took place on a national holiday evening, July 14, 2016, for 4 minutes and 17 seconds of horror. A jihadist terrorist broke 86 people driving a truck. The images are still in everyone’s memory as the trial opens on Monday, September 5 in Paris.
Master Fabien Rajon, lawyer for the families of victims, confides in their state of mind a few days before the start of the trial. “They apprehend this legal meeting” but they are “lucid about the fact that the absence of the terrorist, of the main actor in this tragic attack will weigh on the debates. We will have to do without the presence of this individual who was killed at the time of the facts”, declares master Fabien Rajon.
Frustrated by this absence, the families of the victims “may feel that this lawsuit will not be of much use despite everything, on our side, we are going there with energy and determination”, he continues. For some, this trial is a psychological ordeal. “They are apprehensive in particular about their testimony at the bar of the Assize Court”, reports the lawyer for the families.
“Will this legal meeting allow them to turn a page? To date, I would say that it is a little early but it is undeniable that they apprehend this legal meeting”, concludes master Fabien Rajon .
