Six 30-passenger buses were completely destroyed by the flames of the violent fire that ravaged the Hangard bus parking lot for several hours, in Yvetot, on the night of Friday 16 to Saturday 17 December 2022. The six destroyed buses were completely assigned to school . bus service in the Yvetot region. But don’t panic for families and students: for the resumption of classes after the Christmas break, the bus service will, as usual, be exclusively provided by Hangard buses. “Operations will be able to resume normally for the start of the school year in January 2023 as well as for the Institut médico-éducatif (IME), assures Sylvie Mazars, general manager of the Hangard bus company. We will manage internally with other vehicles in our fleet. »

Every day, 150 buses cross the roads to transport almost 4,000 students from kindergarten to high school, morning and evening. An essential activity for the transport company, which represents more than half of its turnover.

Legal expertise

On the evening of the fire, the flames ultimately destroyed only six 30-seater vehicles out of the 160 in the bus operator’s fleet, as well as the building housing the driver’s locker, thanks to the movement of the buses by the drivers present. room.

The investigation into the cause of this fire and the overall assessment of the disaster is still ongoing. “We await the legal expert’s report”, says the daily manager.
