How do you assess whether a car insurance offer is good?

Choosing your car insurance isn’t necessarily as simple as you might think if you want the one that really suits you. If it remains a formality and knowing certain elements is enough to make your decision, how do you make your choice?

The first criterion: define your needs

First, define your needs to know what type of insurance is right for you. You do not have to have the same insurance if you e.g. run every day or occasionally. You must therefore first make a list of different criteria, the most important of which are your profile (new driver or senior), how often you use your car and your skills (or luck) with the number of injuries. Other criteria must be taken into account, such as your parking location (indoor, outdoor, presence of a secure garage) or the condition and type of your car. Once these elements are set down on paper, your insurance company can create a simulation of these criteria for you. This will allow you to also define the criteria that seem most important to you. It is important to have taken this step before answering the question: how do I insure my vehicle?

The different types of protection

Once your needs are defined, you need to know the different types of protection. L’third party car insurance allows you to cover basic needs and represents the mandatory minimum. This corresponds to protection for third parties in the event of an accident. It only covers damage to third parties and not damage to your vehicle if you are responsible for the accident. This insurance is generally used when your vehicle is quite old and you accept that it might get damaged without worrying too much about it. The reverse isthird party car insurance + allows you to insure yourself against claims you are exposed to, such as theft. Most of the time drivers prefer comprehensive insurance although of course it is more expensive as it covers other damages regardless of whether you are at fault or not. This insurance is especially recommended if you value your vehicle and it is new.

The different types of guarantees, exclusions and deductibles

The additional guarantees should be looked at in particular if you are in the case of a third party car insurance + and in particular the one for glass breakage, theft and fire, guarantee for personal belongings or for vehicle breakdown. There are others, such as natural disaster or inclement weather guarantees.

Another element to look at, the cases of warranty exclusions and deductibles. You must pay special attention to them because some insurance companies exaggerate and make the coverage almost zero, as well as the excess that can ensure that the majority of the damage remains your responsibility. However, the latter can be used to negotiate the price of the prize. You will have understood: just because an offer is cheaper and seems to offer the same guarantees does not mean that it is necessarily better and that it offers the same level of protection. Extra fees can quickly make an offer more competitive even with a slightly higher price.
