The Route du Rhum started on Wednesday 9 November. The start of the race had been postponed, while the skippers made no secret of their reluctance to tackle raging weather. The lack of insurance of a certain number of competitors is also not independent of this hostility.
Planned for Sunday, the start of the Route du Rhum was finally given this Wednesday. Among the 138 competitors, few were ready to face the disastrous weather conditions last weekend. And the few insurance companies that cover racing yachts could hardly hide their delight at this reprieve.
