The project is ambitious and, if successful, will create a particularly efficient national charging grid.
The U.S. federal government unveiled plans last Thursday for its national charging program funded by the Biden administration’s infrastructure act. The figures to be reached by 2030 are: 500,000 terminals in all, four to 150 kW per site minimum, each site at a maximum of 80 km from each other and less than 1.5 km from a motorway.
The proposal also calls for an increase in interoperability to resolve the current difficulties encountered in charging at stations with different types of terminals and with multiple operators, as well as tariffs that do not require a subscription. Interesting element: the maintenance of these terminals is also included in the budget.

The plan also includes a call to develop services to help electric cars breaking down out of charge. Increasing the number of bollards should make such incidents rarer, but having protocols in place would reduce the potential impact on traffic and endangering occupants.
The announced budget of this national plan? $7.5 billion.
