Open heart. James Middleton lost one of his dearest people earlier this month. Grieving his dog Ella, a cocker spaniel who accompanied him for 15 years in the different phases of his life, and which saved him from depression, the brother of Kate Middleton is inconsolable. James Middleton wanted to express himself about this emptiness in his life, i Times of this 29 January 2023 to raise public awareness of the loss of an animal, and the healing power of therapy dogs : “Whether we own a dog or not, we all know that moment in our lives when we struggle to make sense of death, and no one can prepare you for that void.” he writes in a long, heartbreaking op-ed.
Suffers from depression and has even gone through suicidal phases, James found in his companion Ella an unwavering support and a love that goes beyond words. Always in duo, James never traveled without his dog, to the point that she was the one who allowed him to meet his companion Alizée. James thanks his sisters, Kate and Pippa to have been there for him in this difficult time of grief, and he remembers in his text how important it is to have access to dogs during therapy or when suffering from mental problems.

James met Alizée thanks to Ella
In his long, moving column, James recalls his first date with his wife Alizée. “I met Alizée thanks to Ella after she ran straight after her in a restaurant. I then wrote a little note which Alizée kept. I signed it on Ella’s behalf, I had written something like: “Do you want to go out join me for a drink and I’ll bring my friend James“. An adorable message that convinced the Frenchman to go out with the two phenoms. The couple got married in September 2021 with Ella by their side. James Middleton has the courage to share his feelings with the public, though it is the loss of an animal, and his letter to his missing dog is all the more touching.
