“Let the players be ready to go to war with me”

On Monday morning, Frédéric Bompard, new coach of Nîmes Olympique, held his first press conference. He is the 5th NO coach in 2 and a half years. He succeeds Nicolas Usaï, who was dismissed from his position on Wednesday.

Frédéric Bompard is a man in the shadows projected into the limelight. He was Rudi Garcia’s assistant for 15 years, whom he supported in Dijon, in Losc, where he was champion in France, in AS Rome and in Marseille. He then joined the Guingamp staff and took charge of the first team last year for a successful rescue mission.

A feat to be repeated this year with Nîmes Olympique. And the neo-gardois already have plans in mind. He intends to apply the same principles of play as those he built with Rudi Garcia, but above all he will ask his men to go to war with him. The results should come quickly. Nîmes are 16th in Ligue 2, tied with Dijon and Rodez, the first two relegated. Frédéric Bompard will make his debut in an official match on December 26 against his former club, Guingamp, at the Antonins stadium.
