Abandons are daily, but adoptions are too rare. Amanda Pirois, who manages them, sounds the alarm “With 194 dogs and a hundred cats and kittens, we are reaching saturation point. That is why we encourage well-thought-out adoptions”.
The shelter cats are not unhappy, not this one anyway, but their numbers have reached maximum capacity.

Not serious chorus. “It is a commitment for ten or fifteen years. We see too many animals coming back. Like that brat over there. We had said: ”no cat”. We were told ”yes yes”. Except the master’s new companion has arrived with a cat. The cat is gone and the dog is back behind bars.
“For those who don’t go, the holiday can be a good time for the animal to have time to adjust to its new life”
To avoid this kind of back and forth, SPA offers meeting rooms to get to know each other, with the option of coming several times. The animals are microchipped and sterilized (allow 290 euros for a bitch) Another need for the association: foster families for temporary stays of animals for young people to be adopted or with specific needs. And Kheit Larcher insists: “for those who do not go, the holiday can be a good time for the animal to have time to adapt to its new life”.

At the breeder
During the summer, dog breeders also continue to need to complete adoptions. After all, it is an agricultural business that has to balance its costs with year-round sales. 21 of them are present this Sunday in Quinsac on the occasion of the Puppy Show. “They come from all over France,” explains Bernard Moreau, who organizes these events every two weeks throughout the country.

Around 2,000 visitors are expected to roam the halls of Château Lacbleu. “With around 60 or 70 adoptions at stake”, estimates the organizer. He’s aware that the period isn’t necessarily the best time to welcome a companion, and that the new rules (read below) aren’t compatible with the show’s traveling format. “But it is always possible to agree with the breeder so that he keeps the animal until he returns from vacation or at the end of the seven-day period”.

This is the choice we made Sandra and Fati, who fell in love with a little female Samoyed. “We will be moving soon. In order not to disturb her, we will pick her up from her breeding farm in Le Mans when we are in our new home. »
Here too, even if the show lasts two days, it is necessary to sign a bond seven days in advance.

Here, too, visitors think before committing: which breed has the character that best suits the composition of the family, its way of life… Among these Floiracais, we are divided. Madame leans towards a Cocker Spaniel, Monsieur for a Leonberg… From 800 to 2,500 euros per puppy, it’s better to agree.
