Restaurant tickets, table vouchers: here is what you can buy with your restaurant vouchers!

With the current economic context in France, everything is becoming more expensive. And so eat too. The government is considering increasing the ceilings for restaurant tickets and other meal aid. In the meantime, here’s what you can buy with them.

Meal vouchers

If Restaurant Tickets were originally created, it was to allow employees to eat good meals. So basic, only real restaurants accept them, soon all types of restaurants took them. And now, the large distribution too. The ceiling for Restaurant Tickets had even gone up to 38 euros to encourage employees to go to the restaurant.

In general, it remains half financed by the employer and the employee. Today, the ceiling for restaurant tickets is 19 euros, but the government is considering increase to 25 eurosto match current prices.

Possible purchases

If in terms of restaurant, you can pay with everywhere, delivery applications also take this payment method. On the other hand, for the large distribution, it is different. The National Restaurant Vouchers Commission told actu.fr that “When we opened the system to supermarkets, several commitments were made”. This is why a control device has been put in place. Not all products are eligible to this method of payment. Only those for food. Indeed, the primary purpose of restaurant tickets must be respected. It’s not shopping, but good to eat. Thus, certain products are available according to certain categories.

Products eligible for restaurant tickets

Fresh product

In the fresh products purchasable with the balance meal vouchers and other aids of the kind, we find charcuterie. But also dairy desserts, cheeses, yogurts, fruits or vegetables, milk, ready meals, processed fish, mixed salads, snacks, pies, quiches, pizza, caterers. You can also find meat prepared for cooking, fresh processed meat or canned meat.

Frozen

Just like fresh products, we find the same style of products that can be purchased with restaurant tickets. For example snacks, ready meals, fish, frozen foods except desserts and sorbets, but also pies, quiches, pizza or even prepared or processed meats.

Some rules

On the other hand, when it comes to drinks, say goodbye to alcohol with meal tickets. At the same time, it is understandable. Basically, they are used to pay for lunch during working days. Therefore, the employer or the State will not encourage the French to work drunk. But alcohol is not the only prohibited. Indeed, normally, you cannot buy ice cream, sorbets, pastries, unprocessed meat or fish, pasta, rice, starches or other grocery products.

In addition, as restaurant tickets are usually for lunch, they cannot be used on Sundays and public holidays. Also, you should only use them in the department where you work. But many people have noticed that this rule does not seem to be respected in many places. If a supermarket does not respect the law and decides to sell you a prohibited product, it may lose its approval. In effect, he signs an agreement with the CNTR which obliges him to respect this law.
