Samsung’s next screen is monstrous at 8K and 900Hz, gamers are not ready

News hardware Samsung’s next screen is monstrous at 8K and 900Hz, gamers are not ready

While gamers are slowly switching from 1440p to 4K and others are staying true to their Full HD, Samsung is stepping up a gear with a potential 8K gamer monitor that can take off at up to 900 Hz!

The Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 was revisited and boosted like never before!

Announced at the AMD conference, the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is likely to be somewhat boosted!

Samsung repeats its Odyssey series with an update of their famous screen: the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9. This high-end gaming monitor is primarily aimed at creative people and gamers who want to own the latest equipment. For once, by teasing their brand new display during the AMD conference, which presented us with the new graphics card models, the South Korean brand intends to pull the rug out from under its competitors.

AMD has announced their RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT, both of which have a female DisplayPort 2.1 port, a connector that allows the display of even higher resolutions and a higher refresh rate. The red mark therefore offered us a small taste of what this new generation Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 could give us.

We are therefore moving into the era of 8K (7680 x 4320) with a 32:9 aspect ratio screen, which is equivalent to two 4K screens placed side by side. On this 33.2 million pixel grid, this Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 could deliver up to 900Hz refresh rate. A real feat when the screens barely reach 500 Hz.

But be careful, little twist! No graphics card today is powerful enough to run a program or even Windows at 8K 900 fps. You will have to make a compromise between fluidity and resolution, as you will be able to enjoy 8K with a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz, against 900 Hz if you play in 1440p.

For once, Samsung has gone with AMD, as unfortunately Nvidia doesn’t offer a DisplayPort 2.1 port with their RTX 4000 Ada Lovelace series.

An 8K and 900 Hz screen at Samsung: when and for what?

We naturally have the right to ask ourselves the following question: what is it for? And it’s perfectly legitimate. If you are a video gamer, you know that it is sometimes difficult to have good performance on some newer games, even 4K is only available smoothly for certain models of high-end graphics cards.

For once, Samsung is slipping into uncharted territory, as no brand has officially announced a gaming monitor of its kind. Those looking to get this new generation of Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 will be entitled to a screen that will last them over time as the graphics cards become even more powerful and will offer very high refresh rates even in 4K resolution.

The RX 7900 XTX and XT graphics cards will of course offer access to very high resolutions as soon as they are released on December 13th, but don’t expect to play in 8K at 165Hz, especially with the increasingly demanding games that come out every year. Above all, this 8K monitor is intended for those who like to invest in equipment that will last them a long time and those who like to own the very first novelties.

At the moment, no information has been revealed about the price, but we should learn more at CES 2023 in Las Vegas in early January.
