At Saint-Martin vocational high school, everyone knows Hubert. And he is neither a student nor a teacher… This young french bulldog at the age of just over a year, he started school in Machecoul Saint-Meme last June.
This is the director’s dog, Marion Rodriguezwho obtained the board’s consent to carry out this animal mediation project.
“In the spring, my family welcomed Hubert, whose owner wanted to divorce,” explains the manager of the establishment. I had already thought about getting a dog that belonged to the school. Gentle, calming, funny and with a head for the job, I saw that his profile could match this project. »
“It liberates freedom of speech”
Hubert’s integration was very fast. A few pictures on social networks and the phenomenon was born. The little dog of the “dog” family has become Saint-Martin high school mascot. Even two teachers who are not very comfortable with dogs now accept Hubert visiting their classroom.
For 4th and 3rd graders seeking professional discovery, his presence is important.
These are young people who move a lot and are sometimes super excited. And since you have to be calm enough to let him come up to you and pet him once you’ve introduced yourself to him, there is a problem that allows you to change behavior.
For the headmaster, who has worked in Machecoul Saint-Meme for a year, it is a great asset in the relationship with the students. “What touched me is that it frees speech and facilitates exchanges. “Handcrafting gives us the opportunity to create a bond.

Although he is often in his mistress’s footsteps, Hubert can move freely in the corridors, in the classes, in the yard. When the head teacher has to be away for half a day, shifts are organized and a schedule is made so that everyone can have a moment.
During recess, some students come to ask if they can go for a walk with Hubert. Before an exam, a little caress and the tension subsides. Senior students, who coordinate the Christmas market on December 19, even asked him to do a photography workshop.
Everyone is happy. Parents emailed me to find out if Hubert would be there at the start of the school year! It brings joy, smiles and happiness in the establishment. The relationships with young people are incredible. I didn’t think it would go this far!
A great success on social networks
And Hubert is today known far beyond Saint-Martin high school thanks to social networks. Each of his performances is a real success.
“When I post pictures or videos of Hubert, it’s amazing what comments there can be. People tag each other. After a publication on LinkedIn, I received about fifty messages from school leaders, teachers, CPEs, who contacted me to find out how we had implemented this project,” says the director.

The professional high school has expanded its community online. Hubert proves to be a good communication vector for the school’s image. It could well be that his silhouette will be used on future sweatshirts bearing the image of Saint-Martin.
