From the courtroom to the defendants’ bench. This Thursday, October 20, 2022 is held at the judicial court of Paris lawyer’s trial Jean-Georges Betto. He is being prosecuted for acts of sexual harassment and moral.

Facts of several years

The facts date back several years. In March 2020, the public prosecutor’s office Paris had opened an investigation into acts of harassment committed between 2012 and 2017 against trainees and former collaborators, according to an article by Mediapart.

A “sexualized and intrusive climate” would thus have been denounced. The principal concerned for his part refuted these accusations, sometimes evoking “schoolboy jokes”.

Sanctioned by the bar

For these acts of harassment, the lawyer had, in parallel with the criminal investigation, been the subject of a disciplinary procedure by the Bar Association. He had been sentenced at first instance to a one-year suspension. On appeal, he had this time been sentenced to a ban on practicing for eighteen months, twelve of which were suspended.
