The New Orleans Saints are reportedly willing to trade running back Alvin Kamara for a first-round pick.

Alvin Kamara’s legal situation has yet to be fully resolved, making him a significant risk for any team willing to trade him. Add to that the Saints’ asking price, which Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer says is a first-round pick, and a deal seems unlikely at the moment.

Kamara is one of the best running backs in football when he’s healthy. The Tennessee Vols product is a fullback and five-time Pro Bowler. If he weren’t in a legal crisis, Kamara would be at the center of trade deadline negotiations.

Kamara was arrested for assault during Pro Bowl week last year, and was recently sued for injuries the alleged victim said he suffered during that incident. The consensus in league circles is that a suspension is imminent, likely before next season.

Could Saints trade Alvin Kamara to Eagles?

Alvin Kamara is interesting to a number of teams. He is in his prime, 27, and can impact the game, both in the run and the pass.

However, a first-round pick in exchange for a running back is a high price to pay. And the Eagles don’t have a huge need at that position thanks to Miles Sanders and more.

New Orleans would rather regain its own first-round pick in exchange for Kamara, according to Breer. But the Saints running back made it clear in his own since-deleted tweet:

“Lol wasn’t interested in going anywhere. You all get bored writing,” Kamara said.

So much for that rumor.

But the Kamara may still be available generally at the right price. He’s already missed two games this year, and Christian McCaffrey didn’t even get a first-round pick in return. Neither would Kamara.

Kamara has a cap hit of $16.093 million in 2023 and $16.893 million in 2024, which doesn’t help New Orleans. As talented as he is, the Saints would be lucky at best to receive two second-day picks for him. Is it worth selling a key point in their attack?
