the Villemin parents “never let go” says their lawyer on RTL

38 years ago, the tragic story of little Grégory Villemin moved the whole of France. Black curls, chubby cheeks and an innocent smile, this infamous face has haunted several generations of French people. On October 16, 1984, the lifeless body of the child was found, bound hand and foot, in the freezing water near the dam in the municipality of Docelles. The little boy would have been the perfect target of a family conspiracy, nourished by a terrible jealousy towards the social success of his parents, Jean-Marie and Christine Villemin.

The investigation fascinates by its complexity in which judicial wandering, media delirium and macabre family secrets collide. For 38 years, twists and turns occur, opening and closing tracks one after another. The Villemin couple endure the years of waiting, without losing sight of their objective: to find out the circumstances of their child’s death.

Interviewed in L’Heure du crime, lawyer Marie-Christine Chastand Morrand, lawyer for the Villemin couple, stresses the importance of context on RTL: “With these 38 years, they have learned patience, perseverance and resilience, but they never let go, she confirms. I really believe that they will have peace once they know what happened, know what were the last moments of Grégory. They want to know what what he suffered, how it happened and who could have done it”.

The infanticide remains unpunished but the backstory of the case leads to more promising leads, bringing the couple closer and closer to the truth of the assassination of their only child.
