they have invested in ready-to-use solar panels to consume themselves and reduce their energy bill

Energy sobriety, gas prices, electricity consumption… Energy is flirting with the crisis and individuals are turning to solar energy to avoid high bills at the end of 2022. A welcome excitement for two Nantes companies designers of self-installed solar panels.

On the flat roof of her garage in Treillières in Loire-Atlantique, Linda Théodore is full of praise for the five solar panels she bought from Nantes start-up Sunology.

“It’s great, we receive the panel ready to use. We just plug it in and it works straight away as soon as it’s sunny”, she cheers. Linda first bought two of these “solar stations” in August 2022. Convinced, she invested in three more panels in mid-October.

The goal: to consume the energy produced by this home installation, to reduce the electricity bill as much as possible.

Linda Théodore’s old stone farmhouse had already been equipped with solar panels for nine years. But the electricity produced is sold to EDF. “My goal is for them to pay us money”she smiles.

Investing in Sunology solar panels allowed her to consume the electricity generated in her home.

I discovered this type of panel while looking for solutions to be more independent.

“I like being independent, it’s a great freedom to control your energy, she testifies. And I wanted something effective.”

Sunology solar stations represent an investment, up to €749 each. Especially since buyers do not benefit from purchase subsidies or tax breaks.

But the amount will be amortized “in 6 to 7 yearsaccording to Linda’s calculations, and it may be in a shorter time if the prices of electricity sold by EDF rise”. The lifetime of the stations is 35 to 40 years.

Owner of Beem Energy kit solar panels since May 2021, Clément Rimmele shares this observation. He has already observed a saving of €73 by comparing his bills over 9 months between 2021 and 2022. Hence the choice to get a third set last October.

Like the Sunology station, the Beem Energy kit is a solar energy production system that is simple to set up and whose price of €780 can be partly financed by an energy voucher.

“In September we already earned around €25, details Linda Théodore, mBut we also changed our habits”. No energy storage possible with the stations, it is therefore necessary to consume directly when the electricity is produced.

“I prefer to use the oven at lunchtime, and I iron when it’s daytime to make use of the energy we produce. We also look a little more at the weather”.

The same for Clément Rimmele: “We program the washing machine during the day. Since there is no battery, we need to use this power at the right time”. The installation makes it possible to cover 10% of the consumption in his four-person household.

Beem Energy “solar kits” are solar panels that must be installed “like an Ikea table” explains Ralph Feghali, co-founder of the company. This is their main difference with Sunology solar stations, which do not require DIY.

Satisfied customer, Clément Rimmele specifies that his set asked him “between 45 minutes and an hour” assembly and installation each. And like Sunology stations, they’re not tied to the home forever.

Beem Energy’s kits and Sunology’s stations have many things in common, apart from how they are installed.

The two Nantes start-ups behind their design wanted to guarantee ease of use while taking care of the aesthetics of their product. And by providing connected panels so their customers can monitor their electricity production and consumption.

We will not only sell solar panels. The goal is to help people take control of their energy consumption.

The two companies are committed to making solar energy available to as many as possible, and in particular to tenants who find it more difficult to invest in solar roofs.

Interest in these off-the-shelf solar panels seems to be growing. Sunology’s sales have increased 40 times since launching in January 2022, from 200 to 7,000 per month. month. During the period, the company sold 25,000 solar systems.

For its part, Beem Energy claims that October sales were 20 times higher than sales in the same month last year.

Both start-ups plan to open overseas markets in the next few years. They can also count on their clients to ensure their promotion, as Linda Théodore: “I talked to my parents about what they think about it and my neighbors asked me about the name of the company again”.
