“Aiming for Usain Bolt’s world record”. The words are by Fred Kerley. On Friday, the American felt like he was growing his wings after winning the 100m final of the United States Championships, setting the new world best performance of the year in 9.76.
The Olympic vice-champion in the distance benefited from an authorized wind of 1.4m/sec to win ahead of Marvin Bracey, second (9″85), and Trayvon Bromell, third (9″88). All three have thus qualified for the Eugene Worlds which will take place next month on the same track.

By establishing the MPM, Fred Kerley became the 6th fastest sprinter in history, alongside Trayvon Bromell and Christian Coleman. Focusing on the American sprinters, only Tyson Gay (9.69) and Justin Gatlin (9.74) were faster than him.
“My very good finish allowed me to cross the finish line first today”, explained the Olympic vice-champion in Tokyo, adding that he should still be “faster” and could “aim for Usain Bolt’s world record” (9″58).
