Vendée: dogs mistreated in a farm, complaints are increasing

It is in Saint-Paul-Mont-Penit (Vendée) that photos that have circulated on social networks show dogs where we see their ribs, weakened, reduced to eating plastic the few times they have come out of their enclosed. Associations such as the Brigitte Bardot association and the Stéphane Lamart association have conducted investigations, gathered evidence and lodged complaints.

Latest complaint to date, that of July 25, 2022, also dismissed. “On five occasions, the Sables-d’Olonne prosecutor’s office closed his complaints without further action,” they say. The mayor of Saint-Paul-Mont-Penit, Philippe Crochet, confirms it, “I filed a complaint, the neighborhood and the associations too, but no one understands why these complaints are dismissed. When the state services don’t follow, even as mayor, I can’t do anything more”.

“I’m trying one last procedure”

Philippe Crochet has already performed several procedures. “I’m at 4 in two years,” he says. The first two procedures were established with the Stéphane Lamart association. “The problem is where to put the poor dogs. The association carried everything and the authorities of the State only asked the owner to comply with the standards while the kennel was in a house in a subdivision, which is not done. A dog died anyway, ”says the mayor. The third procedure had also failed. This is why the mayor of the town is starting a fourth procedure to make the accommodation unsanitary “so that this person leaves the premises”.

“When the magistrates are not up to it, we have no other choice”

For his part, Stéphane Lamart does not understand the classification without follow-up of these complaints while “evidence is gathered, there are even photos and everyone is complaining about it”. With his association, Stéphane Lamart intends to make a direct quote. “It is a challenge before the Attorney General so that the magistrate who filed the complaints without follow-up justifies and explains himself. When the magistrates are not up to it, we have no other choice than to make a direct citation, ”he delivers. And to add, “it is important that magistrates train in animal protection or get help if they have not been trained in this. There are living beings behind. In our association, we welcome magistrates so that they can be trained in these subjects”. For Stéphane Lamart, 5 complaints closed without action is a record. “Certainly, five complaints does not mean that they are fair, but there, each time, we provide evidence. »

“A dog remained dead for a week under a tarpaulin”

The investigator from the Stéphane Lamart association says that “neighbors are leaving because of this story. It is unmanageable and everyone remains incomprehension as to these complaints closed without follow-up ”. She continues, “A dead dog lay under a tarp for a week. The gendarmes saw it and took photos, but the prosecutor did not take it into account, why? “.

To date, the Sables-d’Olonne prosecutor’s office has not yet responded to our requests.
