Dogs trained from a very young age…

Since 2022, the Toulouse Gold Cohort project has enabled families from the metropolitan area of Toulouse to become a foster family, a breeding family or the owner of a puppy from the cohort. However, in order to adopt one of these puppies, conditions are required: “the family or the volunteers must live less than 1.30 from Toulouse, because the puppy must come to the Toulouse National Veterinary School, to carry out examinations relatively often. Up to 18 months, the puppy must have the same feed and the same care as the rest of the litter you must be available during the day to be able to come home and look after the animal.

Throughout their placement, puppies must begin their learning, particularly through mandatory stays in dedicated training centers during the week.

The dogs therefore only come home at the weekend. There are also regular compulsory courses with specialist trainers: “No matter what training program is planned for the dog, host families are always well supported and trainers are always available in case of questions”. During the entire placement period, Danmarks Veterinærskole covers expenses for feeding, looking after and training the puppy.

…to help others

Very specific reception conditions, because these puppies are intended to become assistance dogs for various beneficiaries. Children or adults with disabilities, whether motor, mental, psychological or sensory, assistance dogs are trained to support them in their daily lives and encourage their interactions.

After 18 to 24 months, the host family’s work is therefore finished: “Some of the puppies don’t get into the service dog training program when the program is finished or if their personality doesn’t match their criteria.”

The five puppies will leave the maternity unit in a few days. If you meet the criteria, you can therefore send an application.
