Her chances of walking again were slim, but dog Lily was determined to take on the challenge

Taking a few steps was an almost insurmountable ordeal for Lily. This dog suffered from a problem with her hind legs which prevented her from moving normally. A woman decided to do everything to help her regain her drive.

Lily is a 2-year-old pyrenean mountain dog. She was 6 months old when her former master wanted to sell her. He did not want to keep her because of her disability.

Tracy Fosterlingwho lives in Florida (USA), was moved by her story after seeing a picture of her on Facebook.

The dog could not straighten its hind legs. This made it very difficult for her to walk. ” It was a really sad sight to see and watching the videos from back then still makes me so sad. “, Narrator Tracy Fosterling To Newsweek.

She had adopted her in July 2021. Several GPs had seen her and all sorts of tests had been done until this diagnosis made by an orthopedic vet: Lily had a patellar luxation on both hind legs. In other words, his kneecaps were not in their normal place.

One of the worst cases [les vétérinaires] have ever seen says its owner. The degree of dislocation was such that it was impossible to put them back in place manually, as can be done in other less severe cases. Surgery was the only solution. It consisted of putting the ligament of the patella back in place and deepening the groove in the femur so that it stayed in place.

The 2 operations took place in September 2021 and then in February 2022. For months, Lily should make as little movement as possible. Her mistress carried her to move her.

“I can’t believe how far she’s come”

The dog then began to regain movement in her hind legs, after which she was able to fully straighten them. Exercises, treatments and hydrotherapy sessions did the rest. Almost a year and a half after his rescue, Lily could finally walk and run.
