F1 will binge in the United States

According to the Sports Business Journal, the American sports television channel ESPN has reached an agreement with the leaders of Formula 1 for the exclusive broadcasting of the Grand Prix of the queen category in the United States. And the amount is particularly high.

ESPN would therefore have won, under the nose of other applicants such as Netflix and Amazon, the broadcast of the Formula 1 Grand Prix until 2025, according to the American sports newspaper Sports Business Journal. The agreement with FOM (Formula One Management), owned by Liberty Media, would relate to a renewal of the contract linking ESPN with F1 until 2025.

The deal would thus authorize the American TV channel to hold the exclusive rights to broadcast all the F1 events on the calendar, in particular those which will be run on North American territory where this sport is gaining in popularity and in GPs, with the arrival in particular of races in Miami this year and in Las Vegas next season. The amount paid by ESPN to obtain the rights to F1 until 2025 would be included between 75 and 90 million dollars per year, whereas currently the TV channel only pays… 5 million each year !
