The thermal radars, announced for several years, which will monitor compliance with the carpool lane when crossing Lyon via the A6/A7 motorway, were installed at the beginning of July. Their entry into office is imminent.
Le Figaro Lyon
No official induction date but an accession “in the second half of July”. Announced for several years in Lyon, the thermal radars, which should make it possible to reinforce the control on the carpool lane of the M6/M7 metropolitan boulevard, have been in place since the beginning of the month. Functionally, they will begin to verbalize in the coming days. With a fine of 135 euros for anyone who violates the traffic rules on this lane reserved for electric cars, public transport, taxis and carpooling. The definition of carpooling begins with two passengers in a vehicle, regardless of their age or relationship. The thermal cell of the radars will make it possible to identify the occupants, even in the case of a rear-facing baby seat or smoked windows.
This is the culmination of a long regulatory journey for the metropolis of Lyon and its environmentalists, following the commissioning in 2020 of this road, marked with a white luminous diamond when in operation. It was necessary to obtain the devices and their approval by the state. A quadripartite agreement then validated the provision of a municipal police officer to manage the system, the metropolis having no police powers. The last prefectural authorization has been initialed about ten days ago, according to our information.

An incentive to save time
“These routes are now well known, even by people crossing Lyonemphasizes Jean-Charles Kohlhaas (EELV), vice president in charge of travel. The principle is to show people that it is in their interest to carpool, especially to save time.”. A fight against solo driving, which will be able to increase, while only a few checks carried out by the CRS highway in four years, to a meager result.
“The sign is now known even to people crossing Lyon”, assures Jean-Charles Kohlhaas and specifies that holidaymakers are rarely alone in their car. Those who are not will therefore have to avoid the leftmost lane between Dardilly and Pierre Bénite, i.e. the entire section of the A6/A7 motorway downgraded to an M6/M7 urban boulevard as they cross the Lyon metropolitan area, except for the Fourvière tunnel.
