In Blessy, cats hosted by the association “Chats du Bonheur” are affected by typhus

Delphine Lesage, volunteer, is committed to the welfare of cats. For a year and a half, she has supported the association’s members and supporters 80 adoptions and about sixty sterilizations. A valuable action when we know that the number of stray or abandoned cats increases especially in the summer.

The president of Chats du Bonheur tried in vain to convince local elected officials: “ Only the villages of Blessy and Estrée-Blanche gave us their support. But we intervened in other towns (Auchel, Béthune, Aire-sur-la-Lys). The municipalities know how to call when they need us, but our inquiries are not answered “, exclaims the president.

“The hard blows keep coming”

The problems began last June for Delphine: ” we were hit hard by typhus, which is terrible among kittens. Everything was done to save them (hospitalizations, vaccines, etc.) and not cause unnecessary suffering to those who could not be. » This episode tried: ” Health takes a hit. We still have cats that have died. “Delphine says she finds it difficult to project herself into this place, which has been disinfected but still needs to be renovated. ” I block it. I can no longer walk into that barn without thinking of that time. “To finance the work, the association organized a three-day online lottery with Loto Paradis. ” This company has been placed under compulsory liquidation. We never receive the collected amounts. »

ONE feeling of helplessness took hold of Delphine, who considers ” option to close the association «, she confides. ” Getting there would be heartbreaking. I receive calls every day to take care of cats and I see the newfound happiness of adopted kittens. But without premises I can no longer help. »

An online prize pool

Hence his call for donations. An online prize pool has been created: ” We made offers to redo the roof and insulation and it cost more than €6,000. This is without counting all the tissue inside that is contaminated by typhoid and is good for the trash. After all these trials, our finances can no longer absorb such a sum, especially since we still have expenses to pay at the vet in the amount of €2,000. “. Undeterred, the president of Chats du Bonheur continues to organize demonstrations to get the association afloat again and continue the adventure with new felines.

The next events organized by Chat du Bonheur: Sunday, August 25, sale of jewelry and goodies at the Aire-sur-la-Lys flea market. Saturday 31 August collection from Leclerc in Aire-sur-la-Lys and sale of goodies. November 16, 2024, dance meal (€18 for adults and €13 for children).
