bad news with a sharp increase in prices in this region

Since 1 January 2024, the minimum age for taking the driving license test has been lowered to 17 years. Once the vehicle is purchased, it is necessary to take out car insurance to drive legally and a the law has changed.

According to Nicolas Lazzerini, regional president of AGEA in Bourgogne-Franche-Comtéthis new measure, which allows young adults to have car insurance in their name, has no impact on insurance rates. At least not yet.

On the other hand, in case of an accident before the age of majority, the minor driver incurs legal liability. Contrary to popular belief, young drivers with their license will not pay more expensive insurance than other young drivers.

They will be subject to the same prices, which depend on the contract type and level cover selected. From 1 April 2024, there will be another big change: the removal of the green car insurance sticker.

This will thus be replaced by dematerialized insurance certificate, via Vehicle folder insured (FVA). A system introduced by the government in 2019.

This file allows insurance companies to directly transfer information about insured vehicles. Like the license plate and owner information, for law enforcement.

Rules that change

Motorists therefore no longer have to put on a green sticker on their windshieldthe insurance company takes care of this formality. When changing the insurance, the new company must notify the FVA of the information within 72 hours.

During this period, drivers will receive a memo to keep in the event of an inspection or accident that requires a report. This note will facilitate the steps to find the information about insurance agreement.

But in the coming months, this insurance auto risk to increase. Every end of the year is the same scenario: bills go up.

Regardless of whether it is for water, gas, electricity, insurance home or carno expense item is decreasing. Everyone justifies these increases, but in the end it is always the consumer who pays more.

The year 2024 is no exception, especially for motorists. According to a survey based out of more than 240,000 prices published on the Assurland.com website, car insurance increased by an average of 3.8% nationwide.

The average annual cost increased from 651 euros at the end of 2023 to 676 euros, i.e. increase of 25 euros. However, there are still significant differences between the regions.

Car insurance is increasing in these regions

In Brittany, where car insurance is the cheapest, a driver salary on average 530 euros per year. While in Corsica, where the premiums are the highest, this sum reaches 842 euros.

This difference of more than 300 euros can be explained by the dangerousness of the road and low competition insurance companies on the island. However, it is not in Corsica that the premium increase has been the most significant this year.

It is in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur that motorists were hit by biggest increase. With premiums increasing by 6.3% reaching an average of 779 euros, an increase of 46 euros per insured person.

The PACA region thus surpassed Île-de-France (777 euros). It just sits now behind Corsica compared to the highest prices.

The increase in car thefts in the Bouches-du-Rhône therefore largely explains this price increase. Remember that in France it is mandatory to take out liability insurance as a minimum.

This coverage covers damage caused by others (people, vehicles, property) in the event of an accident. Even if you are responsible for it.

Driving without insurance is illegal and can result in fines. Such as a fine of up to 3,750 euros, suspension or cancellation of the driver’s license, confiscation of the vehicle or even the obligation to make a awareness training for road safety.
