A kind person discovered a kitten in their garden. Although he was small, he was already a fearless “warrior”.
Cougar the kittenSarah Kelly
Last month, a woman saw a cat carrying her kittens across her backyard. Later, to her surprise, she discovered that a kitten had been left behind.
Hoping that the mother cat would return for her lost kitten, the woman waited overnight, keeping an eye on the little one. Despite her efforts to find the mother, she never reappeared.
When she realized it was time to step in, she reached out to her local rescue, Murphy’s Law Animal Rescue, for help.

Despite his small size, the kitten, Cougar, was very vocal and had the heart of a big cat.
“We immediately had a good sense of his odds because he was in pretty good shape and went right to the bottle,” Sarah Kelly, the founder of the rescue, told Love Meow.

Cougar quickly got used to round-the-clock bottle feeding. Wrapped in a warm towel before each meal, he felt safe, comfortable and loved. With his voracious appetite, he began to gain weight and strength.
When his legs were strong enough, he pushed himself up and tried to stand up. Once he found his balance, he was on his way.

Although slightly wobbly, Cougar was determined to explore, taking one cautious step at a time and steadying himself with his pointed tail. Encouraged by his foster mother’s voice, he squeaked and wheeled in response as he toddlered towards her.
“He’s always had a hugely bright personality and is so loving.”

As his ears unfolded, his hearing sharpened, fueling his curiosity. Although he enjoyed his assortment of cat beds, he delighted in the human bed as he waddled across it, sinking his little paws into the soft fabric.
After each adventure he lay down on the cozy blanket for a quick snooze.

“He’s so outgoing – he loves our resident cats and our Great Danes. He’s so small, but he confidently runs around the house like he owns it. He’s such a happy little guy.”
With several meals a day, Cougar has developed an adorable, round belly that he loves to show off.

“Cougar wiggles into the kitten hood and is excited to get the hang of walking, throwing and playing.”
In just a few weeks he has reached several milestones, mastering the litter box, playing with toys and trying his first solid food from a dish. He has even perfected the “kitten look” to get what he wants.

Every time his foster mom comes in, he rushes over and greets her with a symphony of meows.
With more stable feet, he fine-tunes his running, jumping and climbing skills, gearing up to become a playful troublemaker. He keeps up with the older cats and his gentle dog friend and tries to appear twice as big during playtime.

Despite being left behind, Cougar always had a strong will to live, like a fearless little warrior. Now he runs around the house calling attention to himself as if he is in charge.
