Ford sales climb in the United States despite supply problems

Automaker Ford saw sales jump 2% in the second quarter in the United States despite supply chain problems, particularly in semiconductors, which have held back its main competitors much more.

From March to June 2022, the company sold a total of 483,688 vehicles in the country. Analysts from specialist firms Cox Automotive and Edmunds, however, had expected a little more, and the stock fell about 5% in early trading on Wall Street, in a bear market.

Ford has however managed to sell more vehicles than over the same period in 2021 where General Motors, Toyota and FCA US (Stellantis) saw their sales decline by 15% (to 582,401 units), 23% (to 531,105 units) respectively. and 16% (at 408,521 units). The pace picked up as the quarter went on, with Ford sales climbing 32% in June compared to the same month in 2021.

In a context of supply constraints for the entire automotive sector, Ford outperformed its competitors thanks to strong sales of the F-Series (pick-up) range, Explorer (SUV) range and the new Expedition and Navigator SUVscommented Andrew Frick, sales manager for Ford Blue, the company’s combustion engine vehicle division.

The electric is starting to make a place for itself in the manufacturer’s sales

The group also points out that sales of electric vehicles are beginning to gain momentum since the arrival on the market in May of the F-150 Lightning, of which the group has sold 2,296 units so far.

Ford, which also sells Mustang Mach-E SUVs and E-Transit vans in this segment, claims to be number two in the electric vehicle market in the United States in June after Tesla.
