A family was about to celebrate National Day when they were called about their dog who disappeared 10 months earlier

Since September 2021, owners in Rome had been searching for this dog and had absolutely no idea where he might be. On Independence Day, they received a surprise call from a local shelter, telling them the news that they no longer dared to hope.

For a dog called Rome and long deprived of his family, all roads lead home. Thanks to his identification chip, he was able to find his owners almost a year after his disappearance, reported KSAT July 10.

Rome and its masters live San Antonio, in the state of Texas. Everything was going well for the family until he ran away in September 2021. His owners have never stopped looking for him since, but Rome remained desperately untraceable.

10 months later, and when they no longer hoped to see their pet again, they were treated to a huge surprise as they prepared to attend the 4th of July festivities. The whole family (or almost) was preparing to see the fireworks set off for the occasion, but a phone call turned their plans upside down.

The local shelter (San Antonio Animal Care Services) called them to tell them that he had just admitted their dog. The latter had been passed to the identification chip reader, revealing the coordinates of his masters.

Reunion the next day

Relieved and moved, the owner of Rome however, had to wait a few more hours. The 4th of July being a public holiday, she could not pick it up at the shelter until the next day, Tuesday.

The reunion was full of joy, and the dog was finally able to return home to recover from his long absence.

The San Antonio Animal Care Services took the opportunity to remind owners to identify their dogs if they have not done so, because as for Romethis keeps the chances of finding them intact in the event of loss, flight or theft.
