On Sunday, a man was looking for mushrooms in the forest of Rabouillet, in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
Suddenly he heard a gunshot and his dog in front of him collapsed.
He rushed to his bedside but the walker could only note the death of Ïoda, his ten-year-old malinois.
It was a hunter, who was taking part in a hunt, who fired the shot. She mistook the dog for a deer.
The walker filed a complaint. Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against the young woman. She risks a permanent suspension of the hunting license.
“It’s unforgivable” reacted the president of the departmental hunting federation. “Everything had been respected for the beat, the enclosure was correctly marked out,” he added.
“The cause of 90% of these accidents is the non-respect of the rule which says that you must formally identify your target before shooting” concluded Jean-Pierre Sanson.
