A lawyer suffered a heart attack before the start of a hearing at the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal on Monday. He could not be revived.
The case arouses great emotion among the black dresses. A 45-year-old lawyer died Monday afternoon as he prepared to attend a hearing at the Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal.
A little after 2 p.m., Arnaud Bouriant, a Parisian lawyer specializing in real estate law, was chatting with several colleagues in a courtroom before the hearing began. The forties was then the victim of a malaise.
Paramedics tried to revive him for more than an hour.
The court’s security service quickly intervened to try to revive him using a defibrillator, until the arrival of the firefighters. The latter took care of it, in vain. After more than an hour, at 3:15 p.m., the death of the lawyer was declared by a doctor.
Arnaud Bouriant’s client remained by his side, as well as several magistrates, until the body was lifted by the funeral directors. The President of Aix-en-Provence, the Attorney General, the First President of the Aix Court of Appeal also visited the site.
A tribute will be paid to him
The lawyer was preparing to attend a hearing before a civil chamber which was to begin at 2.30 p.m. A dozen cases were scheduled, fifteen lawyers were also present this Monday afternoon in court. The president of the chamber therefore decided to hold the hearing in another room located in another wing of the court, pending information on the lawyer’s state of health. His case was obviously dismissed.
“We are regularly confronted with discomfort”, notes a judicial source, present alongside the lawyer until the lifting of the body, to sweep aside the criticisms addressed by several lawyers on social networks who denounce the holding of the hearing .
“We are thinking first of all of his family and his loved ones with great emotion. The time is for mourning and contemplation,” said the president of Paris Me Olivier Cousi on Twitter.
The widow and partner of Arnaud Bouriant are received this Tuesday morning by the First President of the Court of Appeal of Aix-en-Provence, in the company of the President of the Bar. A minute of silence will be observed in the afternoon at the opening of the chamber which the lawyer was to attend.
