After the slap, Will Smith would understand that we are not ready to see him again on screen

Emancipation is coming to Apple TV+ soon, nine months after the Oscars.

Will Smith’s career is slowly on the rise after the actor punched Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars last March. Emancipation marking its return to screens. While the promotion of the film is in full swing a few days before its release on Apple TV+, Will Smith continues to to keep a low profile.

Actor fears punishing film crew

In a filmed interview with fox5the actor addressed the public who no longer want to see his films after his violent gesture: “I fully understand that we are not ready. I would absolutely respect that and give their space to people who don’t feel ready. »

Will Smith explained that what mattered most to him was does not affect the rest of the team’s work ofEmancipationa film by Antoine Fuqua that tells the story of a man who escaped slavery.

My biggest concern is my team. Anthony [Fuqua, le réalisateur] and the film team has, in my opinion, achieved the best job of their career and I really hope that my actions will not punish them.

At this point, that’s what I’m working towards. I hope that the film’s power and its current resonance, will encourage people to see it and recognize the incredible talent of the people who worked on this project. »

The release of Emancipation was delayed in May

Held byEmancipation already had to be patient after the release of the film has been postponed. While it was supposed to be available on Apple TV+ from May (a little less than two months after the slap episode), the historical feature film will finally be released on December 9th in US theaters and beyond the international platform.

As a reminder, Will Smith shocked the world by punching comedian Chris Rock in the face after he mocked his wife’s alopecia Sure Pinkett Smith.

Later that evening, the 54-year-old actor won the Oscar for Best Actor for his role in Williams method and took the opportunity to apologize. He had been barred from the Oscars for ten years.
