Johnny Depp’s lawsuit against Amber Heard for defamation is over, but he continues to be talked about. Away from social networks, for once. The Guardian informs us that the actress’ lawyers have submitted a 43-page document to the Fairfax County court asking for the verdict to be overturned.
1er last June, after weeks of testimony, the two former spouses were found guilty of defamation. Amber Heard, found guilty of defaming her ex-husband, was then ordered to pay the actor $10 million in damages. A sum that she would be unable to provide.
Beyond that, Heard’s attorneys believe the evidence against the actress is unfounded. They explain, among other things, that, according to them, this is not Heard’s testimony in the washington post who got Johnny Depp fired by Disney from the franchise Pirates of the Caribbean. On the other hand, they believe that the jury was too severe with Heard, and that one of the members of the jury would not have been named in the rules.
Courthouse News, who unveiled the said 43-page document, explains that he received an email from Ben Chew, the lawyer who leads the legal team surrounding Johnny Depp. He responds to the request as follows:
“It’s exactly what we expected. Just longer than expected, and not adding much.”
The judge, Penney Azcarate, indicated that she did not plan to provide a new hearing to date. It remains to be seen what this request will give, knowing that Amber Heard’s lawyers have, in addition, appealed following the verdict. This story is far from over.
