Banking and insurance: UPCI students show their know-how

Six students from the Popular University of CĆ“te d’Ivoire (UPCI) defended their master’s theses on innovative themes related to banking and insurance.
Current themes. Students who use qualitative methods to provide concrete solutions to the problems faced by banks and insurance companies. Six students from the Popular University of CĆ“te d’Ivoire (UPCI) submitted their master’s thesis to a jury chaired by Professor Emmanuel Aka Brou, Full Professor of Economics at the FĆ©lix HouphouĆ«t Boigny University of Cocody and composed by Prof. SĆ©raphin Prao, Associate Professor of Economics at Alassane Ouattara University of BouakĆ©, Dr. EugĆØne Kamalan and Dr. Omer Kouakou. It was Wednesday, June 5, 2024, in the said establishment in Yopougon-Millionnaire.

The first applicant, Soro ZiĆ© Karma Emmanuel presented the theme: “Modeling the flow of microfinance demand deposits: the case of HES Finances”. According to this student, the development of global financial markets, technological innovations and regulatory reforms have profoundly reshaped the financial sector in recent decades. This complex development, he said, requires in-depth analysis to understand its implications for financial stability, access to credit and insurance, and economic growth. It is clear, he explained, that microfinance institutions collect resources from their savers to provide loans. It is therefore good to know the proportion of deposits that are not withdrawn quickly. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct modeling to determine the stable proportion from which microfinance provides credit to their clients. The jury, having noted the quality of the results obtained, awarded Soro ZiĆ© Karma Emmanuel a score of 15/20.

The second, Sekongo Weloritcha dealt with the theme: “Development of insurance and private credit: the role of the structure of the banking market”. The student emphasized the connection between the development of insurance and banking development, taking into account the structure of the market. Less talkative than the first, he got 14/20.

The other four, Kouadio Kouassi Benjamin, N’Guessan Koffi Kan Anicet, Adamou Yaye Issoufou and Sy SavanĆ© El Hadji Amara also convinced the jury of the relevance of their work.

SĆ©raphin Prao, principal of UPCI, also invited banking and insurance circles to pay attention to what is being done in his company. Because, he emphasized, UPCI is at the forefront of training with up-to-date curricula. A position shared by Prof Emmanuel Aka Brou who congratulated the students for their desire to innovate to attract the labor market. Six other defenses will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
