The plane between Paris and Boston, Mathilde knows it by heart. She who crosses the sky to follow her training as a filmmaker both in the French capital and on the east coast of the United States. The only French in her school, the Auvergne chose to complete her course in Chicago at the start of the school year. “Like that, I’m stronger for the tough job that awaits me,” admits the one whose ambitions are clear, since her parents placed a camera in her hands at 15.
Moving around the globe is part of her life, but she doesn’t forget where she comes from:
It’s a chance to be in Auvergne, the people are simple, kind and the landscapes are grandiose, proclaims the young filmmaker. This is the key to keeping your feet on the ground.
A short film to promote Auvergne
A few months ago, Mathilde crossed paths with Julien Flscale, a director from Rouen. A meeting synonymous with artistic love at first sight. “I wanted to make a short film with him, before returning to the United States,” admits the 20-year-old young woman. “Times were short. Writing the dialogues, forming a team, writing poems or filming… Everything was put together in less than a month and a half. »
Originally from Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme), Armelle Cerdan lives her passion for tennis in the United States
His project, Peter’s hair, tackles the subject of the war in Ukraine through a spiritual story between two people. A scenario where poetry has an important place:
I want to make it accessible through cinema. When you direct a film, everything is to the millimeter, the slightest sigh to its importance, as in a poem in fact.
But not only: “The film also aims to put Auvergne on the front of the stage”, assures the co-director of the short film. Thus, the filming locations were scrupulously chosen to enhance the landscapes. The team went to the villages of Tourzel-Ronzières, Vodable and Puy d’Ysson. “The region is close to our hearts. Making films in the Massif Central with so many talented people reminds me that it is this job that I want to do, “says the student who is about to join De Paul University in Chicago from mid -august.

An artistic fiber
The work is also intended to compete in short film festivals, including that of Clermont-Ferrand. It is above all a gift of goodbye to his Auvergne… while waiting for his next visit to the volcanoes which could well be near the city of Saint-Austremoine.
I would like to go back to Murat high school to say that everything is possible. My teachers in Issoire really pushed me to get into what I wanted to do, just like my parents.
But Mathilde Laporte’s artistic palette is not limited to the big screen. First there was the piano, from the age of six. Instrument on which she managed to mix her voice, overcoming her hypersensitivity. “As a child, I had nightmares, I always felt the elements tenfold,” she confides sincerely. At ease in recording studios, she uses her art to channel her excess emotions.
For the young artist, sound and image are never far away: photography has also become an activity in its own right. “I have become more professional, whether by purchasing equipment or during the services I offer my clients”, develops Mathilde.
On social networks, she then shares her achievements. Portraits that she takes the time to take care of. “My Instagram account has become my business card,” says the Franco-American.

It is on the other side of the Atlantic that Mathilde imagines her future in the arts. A young artist in the making who, even 7,000 kilometers away, will always have a part of Auvergne in her heart.
