“We got an early Christmas present last week…make the four early presents,” Coastal Bend Cat Rescue (CBCR) shared.
A good Samaritan came across a young stray cat loitering in an apartment complex. She was heavily pregnant and extremely friendly, approaching people for attention. With nowhere to go, the finder reached out to his local rescue for help.
The cat seemed ready to give birth at any moment and was in urgent need of a safe place. Despite being full, volunteers at CBCR jump into action and made room for the mother-to-be.

The cute turtle was very grateful for a roof over his head and 24/7 “room service”. She climbed onto her caregiver’s lap for a hug, closed her eyes contentedly and filled the room with soothing purrs.
Forty-eight hours later they walked into the nursing room to a lovely surprise.

Tortie, named Synergy, gave birth to four beautiful kittens in the comfort of her foster home. Just two days ago she was roaming the streets looking for food and shelter. Thanks to the timely rescue, her kittens avoided being born on the street.
The broodmare supported Synergy every step of the way, ensuring all the kittens were latched and nursing well.

Synergy dove into motherly duties, spending her days cleaning and feeding her babies and rarely taking a break. With the help of her foster family, she never had to leave her little ones as food was always within reach.
One of the kittens, also a tortoise, bears a striking resemblance to its mother.

After fending for herself outside and surviving everything she could find, Synergy can now relax with her kittens by her side.
She showers them with love and hugs and makes sure each one is well fed and cared for. The kittens, born just before Christmas, have been named Jerrica, Jem, Rio and Pizzazz after characters from the TV show “Jem and The Holograms”.

“Mama Synergy and her little band will remain in foster care for 8-10 weeks.” When the kittens are ready to spread their wings, Synergy will retire from motherhood and finally enjoy being the center of attention in a loving family.
The kittens are getting bigger and stronger every day, wriggling around the nest and snuggling into their mother’s neck for extra comfort.

“New (rescue) requests for moms with babies and pregnant cats continue to come to us all winter because of our mild climate (in south TX).” Volunteers at CBCR do everything they can to provide for as many strays in the area as possible.
In less than two weeks, the kittens’ eyes will open and their ears will unfold. Their curiosity will soon lead them to explore and take their first steps out of the nest.

Thanks to the Good Samaritan and friendly volunteers, Synergy was brought indoors just in time for her kittens to be born in comfort and warmth.
Now they can all snuggle up and enjoy their first Christmas.
