Digital overtook radio for the first time in 2020 and has only grown its share since then. And, this trend will continue. Radio will still account for 10.5% of all media time spent by American adults in 2022, “which is no small number,” eMarketer notes.
Digital audio includes music, digital radio, audio books and also podcasts, which remains the most popular category. The time American adults spend listening to podcasts will increase 15.0% this year, to just over 23 minutes per day. This represents 23.1% of the total digital audio time. Five years ago, podcasts accounted for just 9.1% of digital audio time.
