Alice Lounge Bar or Alice Restaurant? We now have a choice for a few weeks and the rebirth of Rouge Tomate under this pretty first name, with now two owners who know the place well since they are Thierry Naoum who has been in charge of it for 20 years and Alex Joseph, the American chef who fell in love with Brussels more than 12 years ago. A name change that does not affect the team in any way, neither in the dining room nor in the kitchen. Simply, the “Red Tomato” license had had its day, so to speak, to sum up a saga passed through New York. The garden is still just as beautiful and welcoming, the long bright room soothing and in the plates, exit the “healthy” side of the menu: Chief Alex puts all his passion into lively plates, built around fresh and colorful products, seasonal and often local. Plus, the menu changes every week! “I have too much creativity“, he smiles. Result: the dishes are beautiful on the eyes and good on the palate. And the prices more attractive (€44, 3 courses). It is easy to sign for a lunch as well as for a small al fresco dinner. Especially since now , you can go upstairs to this magnificent mansion dating from 1883 for a cocktail in the Alice Lounge where evenings hosted by DJs and various events will punctuate the nights.And it’s open 7 days a week!
In doing so, the place pays a fine tribute to Alice Wielemans, the last inhabitant of the house, youngest daughter of Edouard Wielemans Ceuppens, who lived there for a long time until his death in 1984. “I discovered all this following the renovation work. I really wanted to pay tribute to the soul of this house, to this single woman, whom I ‘felt’ sad, even though we discovered between the ceilings of the 1st and from the 2nd floor a hidden apartment. Alice had probably hidden people during the Second World War…“, says Thierry Naoum. Making Alice Restaurant and Cocktail Bar a place of life, of passage, of celebration, of gastronomy open to all, is a way to revive it. And to animate this corner of the avenue Louise and Lesbroussart as a real place-to-be, summer and winter alike: the lounge has the air of English clubs and a most pleasant 19th century salon.
