A plant-based meat brand has just been rewarded for its human-flavoured vegan steak.
Want to follow the same path as Hannibal Lecter without harming the planet or your neighbors? The company Oumph! found the solution, by marketing a vegan meat steak capable of mimicking human flesh. The idea is not really appetizing, but it has the merit of questioning.
Human flesh, but no meat
In the tradition of Beyond Meat or Impossible Food, which made meat without meat their business in the United States before establishing themselves internationally, Oumph! presented last year a concept of completely vegan meat, but with the taste of human flesh. It’s unclear how the company was able to determine which flavor to achieve (maybe better not to know), but the marketing operation was a success. Launched on the occasion of Halloween, this fake human meat quickly made the rounds of social networks, before landing in the international press. At the time, the goal of innovation was to educate consumers about a more respectful diet environment, while promoting the brand.
Mission accomplished: just a few days ago, innovation won a Silver Lion during the 2022 edition of the International Festival of Creativity.
How it is possible ?
If we are to believe the few existing testimonies of cannibals, human meat would have a taste close to pork, with a texture rather similar to beef. In the Oumph! recipe, there are no cows or pigs, and even fewer humans: the brand explains that it used a mixture of soybeans, mushrooms, wheat, vegetable fat, as well as a “mysterious spice blend” kept secret. Most of the testers were probably unable to play the comparison between human flesh and the vegan recipe, but the brand ensures that everyone was unanimous on the meaty aspect of the product.
